West Midlands Police seize the one millionth Uninsured vehicle

The one millionth uninsured vehicle on the UK roads has been seized by the West Midlands police.  The
Police have had the right to stop uninsured vehicles since 2005.  Across the UK this has averaged approximately 500 vehicles’ per day.

By using Automatic Number Plate Recognition technology, West Midlands Police report on average the seizure of one vehicle per hour.

It is estimated however, that around 1.2 million uninsured vehicles remain on Britain’s roads.  With a high rate of offending and reoffending, it is worth noting that when someone is caught driving an uninsured vehicle, the average fine is around £200.00. However, for a young person, insurance cover can cost as much as £3,000, reports the AA.
